Introduction
The Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at Kyung Hee University aims to nurture scientific management personnel who can systematically plan and design each industry and various systems based on engineering knowledge and scientific management techniques. In order to achieve these educational goals, it focuses on cultivating the ability to achieve business management efficiently and quantitatively with acquiring specific techniques. The Department produces graduates with excellent abilities in designing, installing, and operating complex systems in which human, technical, and economic resources are integrated. Graduates are entering almost all industries that can improve their systems, including the manufacturing industry, management and IT consulting, information and communication industry, financial industry, medical industry, and defense industry.
Research Area

Research Area Contents
Big Data To provide insights into corporate operations and healthcare services, we conduct convergent research combining engineering and humanities to understand and predict people's everyday behaviors and relationships by analyzing big data collected both online and offline. This is achieved through the integrated application of interdisciplinary principles from data mining, machine learning, statistics, business administration, psychology, and medicine.
Industrial Artificial Intelligence To address the challenges faced in various industrial sectors, we aim to realize manufacturing intelligence, energy intelligence, transportation intelligence, and social intelligence by applying techniques such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and process mining.
Optimization To perform tasks to improve systems by optimizing the decision-maker's objective function among multiple alternatives that satisfy the given constraints.
Ergonomics Conduct research and related tasks utilizing ergonomic principles and related theories to improve user experience in products through UI/UX planning and evaluation, workplace safety and health, and ergonomic product and system design.
Financial Engineering Conduct research mathematical and engineering techniques such as optimization, data analysis, and programming to solve various problems in the financial industry. Emphasizing portfolio management through risk analysis of financial markets and products, we conduct studies on modeling the value and risk of investments.

Production/Logistics Management

The concepts of production, logistics, and SCM extend beyond simple manufacturing to the service industry as well. While macro and micro decision-making in these areas can rely on intuition, utilizing quantitative decision-making methodologies can efficiently enhance system operations and management performance. We research various methodologies for this purpose, including optimization, simulation, and alternative approaches.

Technology Management Conduct research on new product development and policy strategies to increase market success potential and maximize economic welfare, based on management and economic theories for forecasting demand and evaluating the economic value of innovative technologies and products. To reduce market uncertainty, we develop statistical models by integrating interdisciplinary knowledge from engineering, economics, and business administration.
Smart Factory Conduct technology development that applies various technologies that realize optimization, intelligentization, and modularization by utilizing the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence in actual manufacturing environments such as automobiles, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and steel, and leads the international standard for industrial information that is core to the smart factory field.
Simulation To improve production and service systems, we create simulation models based on probability theory to collect data for further analysis using artificial intelligence. By comparing and analyzing long-term outcomes of various system operation scenarios, we derive alternative solutions.
