In the year 1954, the Graduate School of Kyung Hee University (KHGS) officially began with Department of Law and Department of English and English Literature, where there are only 10 students in Masters’ program of each department. On March 25th, 1956, KHGS held its first graduation ceremony. In the year 1959, Doctoral programs in Law and also in Political Science were established. After almost 70 years, KHGS in the year 2002 consists of 108 programs or departments, with more than 2,900 students enrolled. In the past half-century, KHGS has awarded some 7,041 Doctorate degrees, 21,010 Master's Degrees, and 216 Honorary Doctorate degrees.
KHGS received top marks for its graduate division in the 1995 comprehensive university evaluation. Always in pursuit of the best in research, KHGS is actively involved in collaborations with many of the leading research institutions in Korea, including the Korean Institute of Science and Technology, the Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine, the Korean Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute, and the National Environmental Research Center, to name a few.
Our devotion to top-quality research and education received international recognition. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of the year 2022, Kyung Hee University ranked 276th place among the universities around the world, with the 29th place in Asia. In particular, the citation of our research has placed the university in 2nd place among the universities in South Korea.
KHGS also puts a great effort to provide top-quality administrative services, and student care, providing the newly-constructed dormitory and stipends for the graduate students. The graduate students have their student council to represent themselves in the university. The graduate student academic fair is held every year for students to share their research with fellow students.
The KHGS will continue to move forward to become a top research institute in the world, and the breeding ground for research that contributes to solving the global problems we face in the 21st century.
