The Snowy Owl

These animals are famous for their role as the pet of Harry in the Harry Potter novel series. One of the more interesting facts about these birds is that their feathers can be thick enough so as to hide even the eyes of the birds during winter. They tend to get whiter as they get older, often having the hint of some dark feathering at birth.

Like other owls, they hunt at night. This helps them avoid competition for prey with other birds like eagles and hawks.

Because during some seasons the days can be very long in places like Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia, they also are seen active during the daylight hours.
